Privacy Policy

Effective date: 25 September 2026

The short version: there is no account, and the game works offline on one phone. Names, words and scores stay on your phones. Game statistics are off unless you turn them on, and even then they carry no names, nothing anyone typed and no device ID.

Who we are

Halfword is made by Mikita Iwanowski (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what the app and this website do with information about you. You can reach us at info@slnt-opp.xyz.

What we collect

  • No account and no sign-in.
  • No tracking, and no advertising identifiers.
  • Nothing at all while you play on one phone.
  • Anonymous game statistics, only if you turn them on (see below).

What stays on your phone

The player names you type, your table’s scores, your game history (including which word pairs you have played, so the app doesn’t repeat them too soon) and your settings are stored only on the phone that runs the game. If you back up your phone, they are part of that backup, which is yours. Deleting the app removes everything it stored.

Playing on one phone

Pass-and-play works offline. In this mode the app doesn’t connect to the internet or to your local network at all.

Playing on several phones

This applies once multi-device play ships. It isn’t in the app yet.

One phone hosts the table and every player sees their own word on their own phone. To join, you scan the host’s QR code or type its short code; the app uses the camera only to scan that code.

  • Same Wi-Fi. Phones find each other on your local network and talk to each other directly. On iPhone, iOS asks your permission for this first.
  • Relay. When phones can’t reach each other locally, messages go through a relay that we run on Cloudflare. Everything is encrypted on your phones before it leaves them, with a key the relay never gets, so the relay only forwards ciphertext it cannot read: it never sees a word, a name or a role. It keeps no game content, and it only knows which connections belong to the same table while that table is open.
  • Device key. On first launch each phone makes its own key pair, so the host can recognise it when it reconnects. The private key stays in your phone’s secure storage and is not backed up or synced. The device ID made from it is not linked to any account, and it is never part of the game statistics.

Word packs

This applies once word-pack downloads ship. Today every pack comes with the app.

The app may download new or updated word packs from our server, which runs on Cloudflare, now and then when you open it. The request says only which language you play in and which pack version you already have. It carries no name, no account and no device ID. The app keeps working with the packs it has if there’s no connection.

Game statistics (optional)

This applies once game statistics ship. They aren’t in the app yet.

The app will ask before it sends anything, and it plays exactly the same if you say no. If you say yes, it uploads a summary of your finished games from time to time, over Wi-Fi, to the same server as the word packs. For each game that is:

  • which word pair and pack version was played, and in which language;
  • how many players there were, how the roles were split, and which special roles and rules were on;
  • which side won, in which round each role was voted out, and the points scored;
  • how often each round’s votes pointed at an Undercover or Mr. White;
  • when the game was played, with random IDs that tie together the games of one table.

It never includes player names, anything typed (not even Mr. White’s guesses) or a device ID. We use these statistics only to learn how hard each word pair really is and to adjust its difficulty. You can switch them off again at any time in the app.

Children

Halfword doesn’t ask anyone’s age, and we receive no personal information from anyone, children included.

Your choices

We hold no data about you, so there is nothing for us to look up, correct, export or delete. Everything the app keeps is on your phone, where you can delete it. Because game statistics carry no name or device ID, we can’t tell which games were yours; switching statistics off stops any further uploads.

This website

This website sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and loads no fonts, scripts or anything else from other servers. We don’t keep logs of your visits. The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver the pages and protect them from abuse; see Cloudflare’s privacy policy. The same applies to the relay and the word-pack server once they ship.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we’ll post the new version on this page with a new effective date.
